Working in France as a consultant

I am a qualified engineer and project manager with many years of experience in the energy industry. Since moving to France last year I have not been employed, although I do have the right to work. Now I have recently been contacted by a former colleague in the UK who would like me to do some commercial consultancy for his energy startup business. The company is UK based with no other registered offices.

I have been trying to figure out the best way to enable this opportunity to happen! And so far I believe there are two ways it may work:

- Micro-entrepreneur
- Portage salarial

I have been reading other posts to try and pick up on your previous answers and so I believe Micro-entrepreneur may be risky due to only having a single client prospect plus the fact that I am only looking to work part time in the short term.

So perhaps portage salarial is more fitting, covering both me for french administration and the UK company from permanent establishment in France? Or do you believe there are any other options available?
