Will I get health cover when I register a gite?

Married, early retirees. Private UK pension as income. Bought and renovated a property in France in 2007 and became tax resident 2010 with S1 cover that expired end 2012. Gite business starting summer 2013 with around 14,000 euros bookings to date (less than 50% of income and unlikely to exceed / will cap). Was not contacted by caisse primaire d’assurance maladie (CPAM)  but having recently enquired about new top-up insurance the company checked and discovered we were no longer eligible (as suspected) - hence no current health cover. Possibility of asking CPAM for residency entry minimum 2,300 euros per year contribution but only if accepted and other forums suggest this is difficult.

Auto-entrepreneur therefore current favourite. However, local tax office advised last year that simply declaring income on tax return is more tax efficient. Have filled out form and registered gite with local Mairie. Still three years before five year residency rules allows CPAM entry, but current year may add to this since no health cover in place.
