What to do when a client will not pay?

I have a problem with the client I was working for from September until the end of November. Everything was going very well and he was happy with the work I was doing, but then his ex-wife turned up and took charge of the entire project. He did nothing to stop her doing this and because she wants some things changed (despite the fact that they had originally been approved by him), she is complaining about the work I have done.

I think she is doing this to get out of paying me. I have already changed one or two things, at my own expense, but they still will not pay me the amount they owe for work I have already done. I have appealed to him but he is now taking her side, which means that I will not now be able to continue with the project, so I have lost future work on the property, too. I would be very grateful if you could advise me on what to do next to get them to pay what they owe me.
