What is the difference between CPAM and CMU?

My last job was for the month of Jan this year (temp contract ended). Having always had my carte vitale information processed by caisses primaires d’assurance maladie (CPAM),on my last visit I was handed a form to change to couverture maladie universelle (CMU) and that I was no longer covered as I had not worked since Feb this year. I can’t figure out what the difference is between them? Am due to set up a restaurant in May as a micro social will it all change again?
