What is the best way to set up a gite business in France?

We are a married couple and are planning on taking early retirement in about 18 months. We have some rental properties in the UK which we plan to keep, which will give us an annual income within our UK personal tax allowances of approximately £10,500 each. So in effect, no tax to pay on this income. In addition we want to run a gite business that will give us an income of between 10,000 euros to 30,000 euros per year.

  1. Do we have to become French residents or can we remain UK residents? Is one more tax advantageous than the other?
  2. Will our tax free UK income be kept out of the French tax system?
  3. What would be the best way to set up the business to minimise tax/social charges?
