UK qualified electrician in France?

I am a UK qualified electrician, have been living in France (so far from savings), I speak very little French, but hoping to improve as I go along. How difficult would it be for me to register as electrician in France? Do I have to get all my city and guilds qualifications translated to French or do need me to take exams in French? Is there an official body that can give me an answer, without the usual problem of supplying one document and then they ask for the next one and so on?
