Taxe fonciere and Taxe d’habitation

We bought our house in April 2008 and were told by our notaire that the taxe fonciere and taxe d’habitation were both in the region of 1000 euros a year. We received a bill for the taxe fonciere for almost 2000 euros and apparently our taxe d’habitation bill is going to be 2200 euros. I went to my local tax office to query why the amounts have doubled and was told that the previous owners had not declared a gite which they had converted from a barn attached to the house, so the property was revalued in 2008. They printed off form MAJIC3 Gestion Cadastrale which shows their measurements of the house and gite. Do you know whether the figures given relate to the entire house space, ie ground floor and first floor or whether they just relate to the square metreage of the building as the figures given don’t match up to those we have taken?

Apparently we are also going to receive a bill for taxe professionelle relating to our business as chambre d’hote and gite rental. Having read through previous topics it seems that we would be exonerated for the first year and we are now registered as auto-entrepreneur in any event.  Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated.
