Setting up an online retail business in France?

In the UK, I set up and ran an online retail business, which I am no longer involved in. I now wish to start again setting up a new internet business in France as an auto-entrepreneur, as I am resident here. I will initially be targeting the UK market, casting the net wider in time. As a startup, turnover will be below €80,000. I have spoken to a couple of suppliers in the EU and they are asking for a TVA number (although they are currently looking to see if a Siret Number will suffice). I just want to get going and be following the correct path from day one, and would be grateful for any help or advice.
