RSI asks for translated birth certificate?

We are registered as auto-entrepreneurs and the RSI is now asking for a translation of both my birth certificate (I am German) and the birth certificate of my wife (American). Does anybody have experience with this procedure? Who is allowed to certify the translation, which could be easily done by ourselves. Could anybody mail or fax us their officially translated version of their birth certificate (you can black out the name etc), so that we see what it looks like. Any advice would be appreciated.
