Residency Timeline for Working Spouse of Visa Talent Applicant
My spouse is planning to apply for a Visa Talent Artistique, and I am a self-employed consultant (we live in the US). I have heard that the spousal process for obtaining a residency card can take awhile, perhaps up to 8-9 months, because the Artist visa holder must get their residency first. I understanding that part correctly?
If so, I am concerned about the impact on my business because I would not be able to work during that time, so clients may go elsewhere. In your recent YouTube video about Visa Strategies for Couples, you mentioned a couple in which one person applied for a Visa Talent and her spouse was considering applying for Profession Libérale.
If this is a possibility, I earn approximately the SMIC net amount, my partner earns more that twice SMIC, and we have significant savings. Would applying for Profession Libérale be a better option so I could start working much sooner?
Very importantly, if I applied for a Profession Libérale visa, would I also be able to receive the “famille accompagnante” multi-year spousal visa benefit, or can it only be one or the other? In other words, a one year Profession Libérale visa or “famille accompagnante pluriannuelle” but not both?
My other question about the Visa Talent: is it like the other visas that are valid for 90 days when you first arrive in France? If so, if I am only “famille accompagnante” (if no PL application) how does it work given that it is unlikely that I would receive a residency card before the 90 day expiration? Would I receive documentation of my spouse’s residency process that would properly cover me until I can apply for residency? Would this allow me to travel outside of France during that time, if necessary. I wouldn’t anticipate it, but it would be helpful to know in advance.
Merci beaucoup, Valérie.
