HI Valarie.

My Familiy and I are planning on permanently relocating to France this year and are currently looking for a suitable property to run a craft/art retreat as either a B&B or Hotel.

  1. I have read a fair bit about the restrictions regarding Chambre d’hotes / table but I can’t find much about the added legislation for being a hotel. is this easy to summarise?
  2. Are there any different rules about people staying for longer stays (week at a time) rather than just a couple of nights?
  3. The table d’hotes dictates that the guests must eat with the family at the family table but is this all the family or just a member of the family and how is this policed? We often stay in catered chalets where this isn’t the case so how does this work?
  4. We would like to serve alcohol and understand we would have to undertake a course but are these done in English also as our French may not be up to this standard just yet. Does this also allow us then to have a paid Bar or just to serve wine with the meal?
  5. Finally, my daughter has a liquor license for the UK so would this hold any ground in France towards obtaining a license?

I think that’s it for now but I’m sure I will be in touch again soon.

Thanks

Graham
