Regulations for Gite?

In 2019, my husband retired and we moved to France.  Since then we have rented out our house here a few times as a gite.

We haven’t registered as a micro- entrepreneur business as our income from the house was only about 6000 euros per year for both 2019 and 2020.  Hopefully we will have the need to ... and will be allowed to? ... register in a year or two.

The house has 6 bedrooms and 15 beds.  We rent it out to one group at a time.  My husband and I live in a separate smaller house on the property.  What do we need to know about renting our house out in this manner?  (Is it even correct to call it a gite?)  I am unclear as to what regulations we have to follow.  For example, are you supposed to have your electricity checked yearly for safety?

Are we placing ourselves under stricter rules by having 6 bedrooms and 15 beds?  Would there be less regulation if we rented fewer rooms/beds as with Chambers D’hotes?  What is the maximum amount of rooms/beds you can rent with the least amount of regulation?  Or, is the difference in regulation negligible?

A little background on us:  my husband is American and received a residence permit for France in 2019 (via me as a European citizen).  I am British (although actually have dual citizenship with America) and I will be applying soon for my French Residency Permit under Inactive/Retired.

Many thanks for your help.
