Do I have to register a gite business if income is less than half household income?

If our gite business in France income is less than half the household income, do we need to register it as a business? I have the option of taking out a UK pension which would change the situation. I currently run the gite business as an auto-entrepreneur, but would transfer this to my partner or preferably de register it as a business.
