Proof of experience for travaux de finition?

My husband wants to register under travaux de finition, but I understand this is regulated and you need proof of owning a business or pay slips for 3 years. I worked for someone but it was over 10 years ago and I no longer have pay slips. If I got a letter confirming I worked for the company for over 3 years would this be acceptable? If not do you have any suggestions?
