Portage salarial and entitlement to unemployment benefits?

My husband is a freelance contractor, working largely away from France. He is currently operating as a Travailleur Indépendant. He is currently on a break between contracts (therefore no income). We are considering closing down the existing business and when he restarts work on another contract using a Portage Salarial. If we go ahead with this under what circumstances would he be eligible for unemployment benefit if he has another break (voluntary or involuntary) between contracts?
