Paying for materials?

A client has paid me a cheque to cover both my labour and materials for work on his property while he is away for four weeks. He usually buys the materials himself but can’t while he’s away. I have now bought the materials needed, and paid for them with a cheque. As he wants me to pass the invoice directly to him when he returns, as though he has bought them directly, what do I do as regards my cotisations, now that I have paid by cheque? Will I be expected to pay the 12%?
