Paying cotisations when a client still owes money?

I’ve already asked your advice about a client who owes me money for work I have carried out. I’ve tried all I can think of to get him to pay up, but I am having to face the reality that he is just not going to. I really do not want to have to take legal action because I’ve heard horror stories about people who have done this, and it’s ended up costing them thousands of euros. If I was still in the UK, I would have the confidence to take it further, but not here.

My question is this: the money that the client owes me was the final payment for about six weeks work that I had carried out for him. It would have been used to pay my cotisations but, now that it looks as if I won’t be getting it. I don’t know what to do about my cotisations. There is so little work about at the moment, and it could be a long time before I am earning again. Is there a way of explaining this to RSI?
