Partial payment of invoices

I’m thinking of having some clients pay 50% upfront and 50% on completion of their project (design/marketing). How would this work for invoices? Would I issue one invoice at the end? Or one invoice for each payment? To be clear it’s not a deposit, or a milestone payment, it’s just the full amount split in two.
