OK to work before siret number arrives?

I have not yet received a Siret - I think there has been a problem with my inscription and I fear I have to do it all over again. After 5 calls to Urssaf and Auto Entrep, I can get no confirmation they even received my paperwork. Can I start working anyway? I have looked everywhere for a sample contract prestation de services for doing conseil en marketing/visual communication, but have had no luck. Could you please point me to some reliable and possibly free samples or models on or offline?
