Nom commercial for auto entrepreneur

Greffe asks for the “Nom commercial” during registration. My question is what would be the legal role of this name?
I know that we are obliged to use our surname on financial documentation,i.e. invoices, but what are regulations?
Example.
John SMITH registers an A-E entity and puts “Nom commercial” as “FOREX CONSULTING”
what would be the proper format on his invoices, can it be something like below:

FOREX Consulting (SMITH)
NN, rue de QQ , NNNN Nom-de-Ville , FRANCE
______________________________
