Maximum number of bedrooms / guests for gite business?

Please could you clarify the rules regarding the number of maximum bedrooms / persons for gites. I have read somewhere that there is an important rule of a maximum 5 bedrooms / 15 persons per gite. Otherwise you are defined as an hotel, with stricter rules etc. I have a gite property that I normally rent out with 6 bedrooms (12 persons). However the previous owner renovated it so that it could be rented as different combinations of rooms.

For example:

  • 2 gites of 3 bedrooms, 1 kitchen, 1 lounge
  • 1 gite of 6 bedrooms, 2 kitchens, 2 lounges

The property can be let so each gite has its own entrance. Internally the gites are separated by internal door that can be bolted. However these internal doors can be opened when let as one unit. Can I rent the property as one gite with 6 bedrooms? If not, do you think I would have a problem running it as 2 gites booked by the same client?
