How to setup an agent commercial and art business in France?

My wife and I now live in France and will operate micro businesses.

  1. I have been offered the opportunity to work as a self employed agent for French registered agency business. I understand that I will need to register with the Greffes Du Tribunal and to be added to the registre spécial des agents commerciaux (RSAC). What form and supporting documents are required for the application? Is there a fee? Do I have to complete a course?
  2. My Wife is an artist and will register artiste libre as her income will be below 8,000 euros. Where does she register? We understand that she would not qualify for the carte vitale. Therefore can I add my wife as a dependent on my application so she can get a carte vitale? If not, how can Jan get a carte vitale?
  3. We will possibly operate some bed and breakfast at our home. This will not be a major business, but additional to our main activities. Normally this is added to the tax form as additional revenue (BNC Non Professional). Would it be better to register this as a business for my wife with her art as a secondary activity? Would this then provide a carte vitale? Also what rate of social charges would apply?
  4. Does my wife need any insurance for displaying and selling art?
  5. Is it better to visit the authority with the form and documents and complete this and leave it with them? How long would it be before we were registered?
