How to get a VAT number as an auto entrepreneur

Do you know how can an auto entrepreneur obtain a VAT number? An accountant told me that I already have one (and pointed me to ) this link, but this I see that this is for an intra-community VAT number, which I suspect is different than the one I need. Also, online I see that you need to apply for one. Do you have any resources on that?

Also, my clients are pressuring me for an invoice. If this process of obtaining a VAT number takes long, do you have any idea what can I do? (my situation, if you don’t recall, is that they are American clients so I am TVA exempt, but I have surpassed the auto entrepreneur pro-rata limit for a VAT, so I need to issue invoices with the number). Thanks a lot.
