How does the process of paying VAT on imported goods from outside the EU work?

· Viewed 133 times

I have nearly finished my education to be a “prof de Pilates” in France. In order to prepare for my final practical and teaching exam, I have ordered a reformer (an apparatus to do Pilates) from a company based in Turkey. I understood, that it will be a 20% VAT on that good, if imported to France. How will I pay the amount? Will French authorities be in touch or do I have to declare somewhere, that I have purchased the good outside the EU? I am lost in how the French procedure works here. Can you help?

Best wishes
