How do I deal with Un extrait d’acte de naissance?

I received a letter from RSI that I should send them un extrait d’acte de naissance avec les mentions marginales. I want to make it right at once, so I would like to know is it OK
to send a copy, not original, and does it have to be certified? Should I send it by registered letter or normal post?
