Fostering business in France?

Is auto-entrepreneur business set up the right step for my family?

We have been foster parents for 20+ years in the UK and when considered the move to France last year we decided to continue fostering, mainly due to our long-term placement who we couldn’t possibly leave behind. As self employed professional foster carers we receive an allowance for our (disabled) foster daughter and my wife also receives a modest fee element which we would normally declare in the UK. As we are now to settle in France I understand we should now register as self employed here (even though our work is for the social services in England)?

Because this is low earnings would we be liable for tax? Auto-entrepreneur would appear to be the right way as we must declare my wife’s earnings in any case, it would also appear to provide the health cover we need when my E106 expires. Also, can anyone tell me if the right term for fostering in France is famille d’accueil?
