Do we have to register a business in France?

We have moved to France recently - we have a UK Limited company with only us as directors and employees. We have been told that we have to close our UK company as we cannot live in France and have a UK company. We wanted to declare our English salary in France and pay French tax on our English salary.
- Is it necessary to close the UK company and set up as an auto-entrepreneur business (our turnover is about 35,000 euros)?
- If we set up as auto-entrepreneurs can we keep the bank account in UK and in sterling as all our customers will pay in sterling and can we still invoice in sterling?
