Do I need a French tax number before registering a business?

Thank you for your earlier response regarding what the bank is requesting. I believe it is not the SIRET number, as she told me I have to go to the local tax office to get it. Anyway, I need to setup the auto-entrepreneur business here in France and will get my SIRET number. Do I need to go and get a tax number at the tax office as well and do that before or after the auto-entrepreneur business registration?
