Delay in receiving SIRET number

I applied for auto-entrepreneur registration in, what I thought was, good time to start trading on 1st March. Still not received a SIRET number, although I have received an acknowledgement for the application. Do I have to wait for receipt of the SIRET number before I can start trading?
