Clarification on VAT for UK Clients

I expect to surpass the VAT threshold this month. However, my clients are all based in the UK, not France. I read that I shouldn’t charge VAT to clients in the UK. Is this accurate? But Still I should I request a VAT number from the tax office and ask them to activate my VAT regime?
