Certified birth certificate translation or does it have to be an original?

I received a letter from RSI asking for my Securite Sociale. I thought the government would assign me a number when I applied for the auto-entrepreneur status. The letter also asks me to send a translation of my birth certificate. Should I send the document to them with an explanation that I don’t have a Securite Sociale number yet? Also, will they accept a copy of the certified translation or does it have to be an original?
