Can we sell surplus food and plants from home?

Every year we grow too much or some plants are very productive and it seems such a waste to compost it but we do give some away. It would be very helpful if we could sell the surplus? I understand that if we were to sell at markets we could be classed as a business and certainly the MSA would be interested in us, but is there a way to sell surplus food and plants from our home? We try to live our lives in an ecological and self sufficient manor and with the costs of living rising every cent counts.
