I have some questions re setting up a chambres d’hotes business. We will shortly be renovating the main part of our house to include 3 x rooms (1 is a family room) and plan to supply table d’hotes and also run courses. Renovation will take a couple of years.

  1. Can we apportion some renovation costs as expenses? If so, what type of costs? My husband will carry out a lot of the work himself but not the electrics or plumbing.
  2. If we can apportion renovation expenses, does that mean we would need to set up the chambre d’hotes business at the beginning of renovation?
  3. Can chambres d’hotes be carried out non-professionally, i.e. pay tax on profits but no social charges?
