Can two auto-entrepreneur’s work together?

My husband is an auto-entrepreneur (traiteur a la domicile), and is planning to also sell snack food at the local market. We have a friend who is also in the same situation and they would like to operate a market stall together. Makes sense as there is often more work to do than one person can handle. Is it possible to have two auto-entrepreneur’s working together?
They are thinking to simply split costs and profit. Will they both need a market permit, or can my husband apply for one and his friend work alongside him? There are always market stalls where more than one person is working.
