Can I work on a US W2 contract as an AE in France?

Hi Valerie,

I’ve been looking for contracts to build my consulting business here (registered June 1st as an AE on a profession liberale visa). I was recently contacted by a recruiter who has a role I’d be perfect for. It’s a part time, 6 month contract based out of the US, but they only hire on W2 which means I’m technically an employee. I’ve asked them if there’s any way they can hire me on a 1099 so I’m an independent contractor but I’m expecting they will say no. I just wanted to check and make sure that it would indeed be a problem come tax time if it looked like I was an employee even though I’m only working for them part time and would have other contracts as well?
