Can I register as an auto-entrepreneur business before residence in France?

I have the opportunity to carry out some work in France in September/October this year. I will not be resident in France until June 2018. Can I register as an auto-entrepreneur business and complete the Stage Prealable a L’installation course with the Chambres de Metiers now, prior to becoming resident in France, so that I can carry out the work?
