Can I let my home as a gite rurale without starting a business?

I telephoned my local tax office to register a Micro BIC for my summer letting of my home. I explained my situation: I am retired and have a primary income from retirement pensions, so the gite income is a secondary source of income. I was surprised to be told that I do not need to register because it is a secondary income and all I need do is declare my income for this year on form 2042C in 2014. Does this sound okay to you? Naturally it is very easy for me but I am concerned about being fined in 2014 for not registering.
