Can a student in France start an auto-entrepreneur business?

I am currently living in Grenoble under a student visa, I have been living in Grenoble for the past four years and started my fifth year this August. I am planning to start a business here in France, also pursue my PhD.

  1. My titre de sejour expires in May, but I am hoping to get my business up and running in the next month, would it be a problem that the expiry date is soon?
  2. Or, can the auto-entrepreneur status be a residency status alone without a student visa?

I will be renewing my student residency but I am still waiting on an official acceptance from the school.
