Business set-up options for gites?

Please could you advise alternative business options for setting up gites? We plan to have two gites next year, and had planned for my partner to run them as an auto-entrepreneur. However, there is a possibility we may be applying for a regional grant, and they have expressly said that auto-entrepreneurs are not eligible for these grants. I would appreciate any advice.
