Auto-entrepreneur garden services and builder?

I have just been asked by a friend who is registered as garden services under auto-entrepreneur if it is legal to work as a builder? I was under the impression that if you did work other than what you are registered to do, it was illegal and you could end up with a very heavy fine? Am I right or am I getting confused with something else? He is planning on doing some roofing work and I am worried that he isn’t allowed to do this.
