Auto-entrepreneur and existing carte vitale

We had a micro-BIC in France for around 5 years. Last year (2008) due to the recession we decided to close it and we remained commercially inactive for several months. Our business was professionally closed down, without debts to RSI and we have all due closure paperwork. By law, our family’s carte vitale provided cover to the end of 2009.

In April 2009, my wife started a new business under the auto-entrepreneur regime. We have received the SIREN and all registration paperwork etc. Her first payment is due 31/10/09. In July 2009, she suddenly found to her surprise that she had been removed from our family’s carte vitale. It goes without saying of course that she has not yet received her own CV.

We have been trying to contact RSI for around 6 weeks virtually non-stop. The phones ring-out unanswered, they are not responding to any letters. Finally after weeks of effort and perhaps 100 calls, I suspect due to an administrative error, we managed to reach someone. They can’t add her back on to our family’s CV. They cannot say when she’ll be back on cover and her auto-entrepreneur file eventually processed. So now she has to pay for any medication (fortunately she has good health) and heaven knows how we’d cope with a major medical cost/emergency. URSAAF have said they can’t do anything about it.
