Artisan auto-entrepreneur?

We have registered on line to do menuiserie but have had an e mail back saying as it is a trade we can not register on line but have to go to the Chambre de Metiers. Have any other artisans had this come up? We have been back and forward to the C de M for various appointments but have concluded that for now it is easier, cheaper and more practical to commence as auto-entrepreneur so really do not want to start all over again - any advise please, as we just want to get a SIREN and start advertising.
