Arret du travail backdated?

I recently suffered a heart attack and was hospitalised for 6 days.
Upon my release I was told to remain at home, take the medication for a month, then get further prescriptions from my doctor.
When I saw my doctor, 3 weeks after my discharge from hospital, I asked for an arret due travail to cover me for the period from discharge.
He told me it was not possible to back date an arret du trvail and that I should have come to the surgery on my discharge.
This, obviously was not possible. Is he correct and, if so, what can I do to ensure the CPAM have my complete file?
The doctor did give me an arret du travail for a month at the last rdv.
