Am I under the right regime for my gites?

When we purchased our house plus 3 gites 3 years ago. We visited our local impots office, they sent me to the chamber of commerce, who said that auto-entrepreneur was the correct regime. So I registered as an auto entrepreneur and have declared my income (and paid the optional tax element) every 3 months since then. But I’ve read and heard so many differing opinions, that I’m still not sure that it was the correct decision.

My husband is retired and receives UK Government and state pensions totalling approximately €27,000 per annum. The average annual income from the gites is approximately €15,000, so they are our secondary income.

Given these figures, do you think it would be more correct for me to close down as an auto-entrepreneur and simply declare our income on our annual tax return? I understand that we would still pay tax and social charges on the gite income, but do you think it would be as high as the auto-entrepreneur charges, and are there any other taxes I would then be liable for?
