What if our apartment rental exceeds one of our primary incomes?

Thanks for answering my question on our tax implications for renting out our apartment. You have said it would be a secondary income for us, but what if one of our primary incomes drops? (specifically mine- if I become pregnant again) If the value from the apartment rental exceeds one of our primary incomes then will the same taxation apply? Thanks!
