Iicome tax: Advice for me who had no French address on 1st January

This one might be hard to answer and despite knowing it was coming I haven’t found a concrete answer for it.

On the 2042 impots form, I need to put an address for the 1st January 2018. I didn’t have one. I moved out of my flat on the 22nd December and was in the UK until 5th January.

I chose not to ask friends to officially lodge me in case their tax d’habitation increased. But, I’ve not done anything wrong as I officially didn’t have an address on 1st Jan.

I can prove I moved out because I have an Etat des Lieux de Sortie, signed and dated, but this doesn’t prove I didn’t move into a new place.

When I went to the tax office in February, the woman there said twice that I had to have an address in France to complete the forms. She was immovable.

What would you advise?
