If I become an auto-entrepreneur will I keep my carte vitale?

My husband worked for a little over two years in France and thus paid cotisations that brought the whole family (me, and our two young sons) the carte vitale. His work in France ended in 2014 and it is my understanding that our carte vitale will run out in December 2016.

Since October 2015 I have been teaching retired people English. I have been paid via chèque emploi service universel (CESU) and thus have been paying cotisations. However, as far as I can understand it I haven’t earned enough cumulatively to keep the carte vitale. I only charge my students the salaire minimum de croissance (SMIC) per hour.

If I become an auto-entrepreneur business here in France am I still obliged to earn a minimum level? I believe I have to by being paid via chèque emploi service universel (CESU), e.g. 120 salaire minimum de croissance (smic) contributions over three consecutive months, to retain the carte vitale.

My income may go up from September as there is a possibility that I will start teaching English at a law firm. In fact it was the law firm that put the idea of becoming an auto-entrepreneur into my head as they told me I would have to become one in order for them to pay me. But, I have not received any written confirmation that this work will happen so I cannot rely on it.
