How do I register as an artist here in France?
Following on from my recent questions regarding registering as an artist, and following your responses, I took a trip today to the Impots to ask for registration as an artiste libre. I was told in no uncertain terms that this could not be done directly through them, I must go via URSSAF. Any protestations or explanations on my part were simply met with a shrug, and a ‘non’. Simply impossible.
Mindful of your warnings that, if I followed the URSSAF route, I might possibly be asked for cotisations even if I fail to sell anything (a distinct possibility for a while - who knows?) I am at a loss to know what to do next. I am only too happy to pay taxes and social charges as and when I earn, but simply can’t afford to do so if I don’t earn! What do I do?
