What happens on Carte Sejour End Date for Non-EU

For us non-EU people: So we apply and register with our carte sejour (with working permit) let’s say Vie Prive et Familialle and it has a valid until date on the card. We fill the form with this date on the card. What happens when this date comes?

Assuming we renewed our card beforehand, do I have to inform with my renewed copy to extend some date? Or do they automatically track my carte de sejour No to see if it is renewed or not?
