What business régime to change to in France?

Firstly, I am a new member this week and would just like to say what an informative site this is.

I am a general builder in France (Charente Maritime), registered as a micro-entrepreneur business since 2009. I am currently 54 years old, my wife works and we have a small gite business as well. The idea was for me to work as and when I needed/wanted to, but have gradually got busier over the last few years, to the point now where I should really be changing régime or starting a new limited company.

I have avoided this in the last two years by working with another artisan, whereby we split the invoicing. But I have now outgrown this as well. I have been speaking with French colleagues and am seeking advice from Expert Comptables, but I am also doing my own research.

My question is what would be my best business options to focus on in France for next year?

Here are some more details to help you:

  • My costs are around 10,000 euros to 12,000 euros per annum
  • Assets are around 35,000 euros current value
  • I have no debt
  • Turnover this year if I was another régime would be around 150,000 euros (excluding TVA)
  • I want to upgrade to a larger digger next year (approximately 10,000 euros additional investment)

A French colleague told me that there is an incentive in the Charente Maritime whereby for a new limited company there is no incorporation tax to be paid on profits in the first five years. Is this true?
